The Folded Deck aims at creating a deeper threshold between interior and exterior. It is an outdoor room, where landscape and architecture are intertwined. Its floors become walls, furniture and planters, inviting visitors to sit, lounge or just pause. The horizontal boards open up when folded to the vertical plane, creating a gap where wood shelvings are inserted, slowly becoming populated by succulent plants. The rich color of the Cumaru (or Brazilian Teak) wood used will slowly change over time, gaining an aged, more mature ashy tint, embodying in itself the passing of the years, and slowly returning to its original state, becoming nature itself.
